Does my child need to be potty trained?
No. At West Side Preschool, we recognize that toilet learning is a developmental process that occurs at each child’s own pace.
- 2-3 yr old classroom: There is no expectation for the children to be independently using the toilet.
- 3-4-yr old classroom: We view this stage as an important time for children to begin developing greater independence in bathroom use, with support from our staff as needed.
- 4-5 yr old, Pre-K classroom: We expect students to use the restroom independently.. We certainly offer assistance when needed.
We understand that every child and family is unique, and our team is committed to working with you to support your child’s progress toward full bathroom independence in a respectful and encouraging manner
Do I need to buy school supplies?
No. All supplies, including a tote bag, are provided by the school.
How many days will I be required to help in the classroom?
Participating in a cooperative preschool offers families a valuable opportunity to be actively involved in their child’s early educational experience. The number of classroom participation days varies based on class size, the number of class sessions, and the number of parent volunteers required. On average, families can expect to assist in the classroom approximately 7 to 12 times per school year
What if I can’t help on my assigned helping day?
We understand that unexpected appointments or illnesses may arise throughout the year. If you are unable to fulfill your scheduled classroom helping day, there are a few options available to ensure coverage:
- Classroom Trades: We encourage you to reach out to other families in your class to arrange a trade. A class contact list will be provided at the beginning of the year to facilitate this process.
- Paid Parent Helpers: If trading is not possible, you may contact someone from our Paid Parent Helper list, also distributed at the start of the year. Paid Parent Helpers are members of the West Side Preschool staff who are available to cover your shift for a fee of $43.
